Composite Poles: alternative to wooden poles containing creosote/wolmanite

Summary

Jerol Composite Utility and Telecom distribution pole. Safe, environmentally friendly, toxic free, maintenace free and with a service life of more than 80 years. Also used in several other applications like poles for road and traffic lighting, road signs and road signals. Crash safe according to EN 12767. CE certified.

Description

What is a Jerol Composite Utility Pole ? The Jerol composite utility pole is an environmantally friendly, safe, non conductive distribution pole. The Jerol composite pole consists of two layers; an inner fibre composite (GRP) and an outer layer of tough 3-4 mm coloured UV stable polyethylene (PE). The core gives the pole its strength, which can be varied by increasing the thickness. The polyethylene offers high levels of UV protection and a tough outer layer enabling the pole to be safely climbed . This material combination makes this pole light and easy to install, yet strong enough to cope with the most demanding of loads. Also because the pole is hollow you have the option of routing cables internally. The benefits: Cost effective Safe. Toxic free. None conductive, no risk of arcing. LIght weight. Cannot rot. No emissions to land, water or air. Resistant to vermihn and insects. Maintenace free with a long service life. Over 80 years. Excellent fatigue properties. Does not absorb water. Withstands freezing. Excellent low-temp properties. Eliminates unnecessary replacement costs. Installation The installation method of our composite pole is the same as a timber pole, which means existing crews can install the poles with minimal training and standard equipment. Nordic climbers can be used to ascend the pole safely. Length The pole is manufactured in standard lengths up to 16 m. Taller poles up to 24 m can be produced to order. Weight The pole is significantly lighter than a timber pole, about half the weight of the equivalent timber pole. Diameter The diameter of the pole is very consistent, varying by only a few millimetres throughout its length, unlike timber poles that taper considerably. Wall thickness The wall thickness of 12-40 mm varies depending on the length and load requirements of the pole. The pole is strong enough to handle all current equipment. Environmental No leaching of carcinogenic or harmful pollutants like creosote or other biocides that can harm the environment. Storing and waste handling Our composite poles are non-toxic, so no special storage precautions are needed. The poles can be reused or cut into pieces and used as ground sockets or cable protection. Damaged pole pieces can be submitted to a recycling facility to be used as fuel.

Practical implementation

The Swedish utility Vattenfall Eldistribution AB uses Jerol composite poles for use in sensitive areas. After a thourough assesment during 2014 -15, Vattenfall choses Jerol Industries Composite Pole as their primary alternative for use in sensitive areas.

Possible replacement to

Wooden overhead line poles for electrical and telecom distribution. Substitutes the classical impregnated wooden pole. Impregnated with biocides like, Creosote cas nbr 8021-39-4 or cas nbr 8001-58-9 and Biocides like Wolmanite with boron compounds cas nbr 10043-35-3. The Jerol poles are also used for road and traffic applications where it typically replaces the steel or aluminium pole. Crash safe, cannot corrode and is maintenance free.
