Description

The starting point for the development of the sustainable rhubarb leather was the search for an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional and harmful chrome tanning.

Rhubarb roots naturally contain ingredients called tannins, which are suitable for tanning leather. Deepmello Leathers tested various genotypes of rhubarb for their suitability, optimized their cultivation requirements and developed an innovative tannin extract from an extraction method applicable on an industrial level. Now the company is able to produce a vegetable leather that meets the highest standards of quality, sustainability and versatility - as well as all the proper requirements.

Deepmello Leathers is member of the International Association of Natural Textiles e.V. (IVN). The IVN guideline "IVN-Naturleder" is one of the strictest guidelines for leather production worldwide. The rhubarb leather is produced according to these guidelines and to the requirements of ISO 9001: 2015 and ISO 500001: 2011.
